sustainable lifestyle choices

Updated: Aug 23, 2019

it's difficult to be completely plastic free or totally eco-friendly in everything we do, but there are small changes you can make that will have a large impact on our environment...

bring your own re-usable straw instead of using stores' plastic or paper straws

bring water with you in a re-usable water bottle

bring your yeti / tumblr to get your cup a joe in the morning. many coffee shops and cafès will even give you a discount for bringing your own mug!

use dish towels and cloths to clean surfaces instead of paper towels (i prefer turkish towels)

re-usable napkins instead of store bought paper napkins that come in non recycle-able plastic

don't leave water running without use. this includes before you shower, while brushing your teeth or drying a dish

use biodegradable garbage bags

re-usable produce bags + grocery bags, again a lot of food stores will offer you a discount for this!

replacing ziplock bags with glass containers or with re-usable freezer bags

i bring a canvas tote with me everywhere, for all my shopping needs so i don't have to take stores' bags.

keeping lights off during the day when there is natural light available

unplugging electronics, lights, chargers etc. when they aren't being used

other ways we've continued to reduce our plastic use:

making our own juice instead of store bought

switching to nepresso pods, the company recycles them for you!

walking or biking instead of driving

anything we can buy not packaged we do and put in our re-usable bags so some of these include: dried fruits, nuts, beans / legumes

when buying peanut butter we bring a mason jar and fill it in whole foods but we've been making our own recently in our food processor! try it, you can add anything you want - maple syrup, agave, cinnamon

make your own nut milk
